McLeod Elementary is situated 42 km west of Dawson Creek and serves the farming communities of Progress, Sunset Prairie and Groundbirch. It is a K-7 school with an enrolment of 41 students. The staff consists of 1 teaching administrator, 1 full-time teacher, 1 part-time teacher and 3 special education support workers.
The school was constructed in 1967 to replace several one-room schools, which then served each community. All students are bused to the school. The 2002/03 school year saw the completion of a Community Hall at the school which serves all three communities. The project was developed as a partnership between School District 59 and the communities involved represented by the Peace River Regional District.
