How does legalization of cannabis affect schools?

Cannabis legalization takes place in Canada on October 17, 2018. In BC, marijuana is still illegal for anyone under 19 to purchase, sell or consume, and remains a controlled substance, like alcohol. The legalization of cannabis will see very little change for the School District.  Code of conducts and existing policies are already in place which prohibit intoxication, impairment, smoking, vaping, or drinking on school property for individuals of any age.

The Cannabis Control and Licensing Act creates serious criminal penalties for those who sell or provide cannabis to youth. The act also establishes new offences and strict penalties for those who use youth to commit a cannabis offence.

Bus Students - Be Prepared for Winter Weather

For the safety and comfort of all students, it is advised students have appropriate winter apparel (winter coats, hand, head and foot wear) while riding the bus. Unknown circumstances and delays may arise at any time and it is important students are dressed appropriately for winter weather.

Casual Bus Drivers Needed

SD59 requires casual, part-time bus drivers to serve routes in Dawson Creek and surrounding rural areas. Check out the support employment postings for more information.

Rural Families Requiring Transportation

Rural families requiring bus service must register for the service by contacting SD59 Transportation Department at 250-782-2106.  Please refer to the Transportation Policy for regulations and guidelines regarding this service.
