South Peace Distributed Learning - Parent Information

At SPDLS we work with parents to create a positive learning environment. It is important that parents understand that they will play an important role in guiding their child through their DL courses. Some of the responsibilities of SPDLS parents are to:

  1. Provide a quiet working area that has very few distractions.
  2. Establish a routine. Although DL students have flexible schedules, they will need to study 25-30 hours a week on a full time secondary program. Sticking to a schedule will help students to keep up with their work.
  3. Make School Work a Priority. Many DL students are busy with athletics, volunteer work, and jobs, but school must remain a priority. Make time every week for the appropriate amount of school work no matter what other activities the student is involved in.
  4. Help your child to stay organized. Keep an agenda book that plans and records the work that needs to be done daily, weekly, and monthly.
  5. Know what your child needs to accomplish. Check your child’s work daily and weekly to monitor for the quality of work and the amount that is completed. Know the due dates for assignments and the dates of upcoming tests.
  6. Stay in contact with your child’s teachers. Phone calls, emails, and visits in person are welcome.

Parent Advisory Committee

The purpose of the School-Parent Advisory Committee is to provide a regular opportunity for principals, staff and parents to consult with one another on issues of general interest which affect the education of the children. The Parent Advisory Committee generally meets monthly throughout the year to discuss various issues as part of the DCSS PAC. All interested parents are welcome. Meeting dates and times are posted on the DCSS website and in newsletters.

Erase Bullying

Erase is all about building safe and caring school communities. This includes empowering students, parents, educators and the community partners who support them to get help with challenges, report concerns to schools, and learn about complex issues facing students.
