Community update on the removal of the existing Tumbler Ridge Secondary School

UPDATE: August 11, 2026

Dear Tumbler Ridge Community;

We are writing to provide an update on the removal of the existing Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

Beginning Monday, August 17, work will begin to remove the exterior of the school building. This is an important milestone in the careful, staged removal of the existing school, which is expected to take a few more weeks.  After the structure is removed, work will continue through the fall to restore the site to grass.

We recognize that seeing the building change will be significant for many in the community. We are sharing this update in advance so students, families, staff and community members know what to expect as this next stage of the work begins.

The work will continue to be carried out in stages, with measures in place to minimize disruption and protect privacy. As previously shared, building materials will be transported to regional landfills, and the Tumbler Ridge landfill will not be used.

We will continue to keep the community informed as the work progresses and share further updates as timelines and next steps are confirmed.

We recognize the significance of this moment and thank the Tumbler Ridge community for its continued care, compassion and understanding.

Superintendent,
Christy Fennell
