Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Policy and Regulation 4075: Diversity and Inclusion is a new policy in development and includes information from existing Policy and Regulation 4080: Learning Services-Inclusion and Policy and Regulation 4090: Diversity in the School Community.  Any feedback may be made in writing to Candace Clouthier before September 7, 2018.  All feedback will be considered and the policy will be brought forward at the scheduled board meeting on September 19, 2018 for adoption.

SD59 Featured in Ministry News

School District No.59 was featured in the Deputy Minister's Report to Superintendents highlighting the success of Aboriginal Student Achievement in the district. A key factor of the program is looking at student data and determining where the students need support. The success of the program is related to building stronger connections with Aboriginal students, working closely with students and their families and ensuring a First Nations support worker and coach mentor is in every school to help manage challenges that cross boundaries between school, family and community.

Revised Trustee Electoral Area

The Minister of Education has approved a proposal submitted by The Board of Education of School District No.59 to amalgamate the rural areas surrounding Dawson Creek into one large electoral area.  The Board put forward the proposal to combine the two areas to evenly distribute the trustee responsibilities among the schools located in the rural areas.

The new area will be named Trustee Electoral Area IV - Rural Areas Surrounding Dawson Creek  and will be described as: (Contiguous rural areas surrounding Electoral Area III (City of Dawson Creek) including the Village of Pouce Coupe and contiguous rural areas within the district boundaries from BC/Alberta border to boundary lines of Electoral Area II (Tumbler Ridge) and Electoral Area I (District of Chetwynd and contiguous rural areas)).

Two trustees will be elected to represent this area in the 2018 General School Trustee Election to be held in October.

A map showing all the electoral areas of the district is attached.
